Not only is the proper food important, but implementing a feeding schedule is important as well.

If you want to keep your Clownfish happy and healthy for the long term, feeding them the right foods will go a long way toward achieving that goal.

Feeding your Clownfish

Clownfish are known as omnivores meaning that they can eat a mix of both animal and plant-based foods. When buying food for your Clownfish, make sure not to just focus on one type.

They should be given a varied selection of both animal and plant-based foods including pellets, flake, frozen, and live.

It’s great that there are so many fish food options available that are high quality and use natural ingredients and proteins.

Staple food should include pellets, flakes, Mysis shrimp, and supplementary food like brine shrimp, bug bites, live foods. They will even eat vegetables like chard and cooked spinach.

Here are some great food choices for Clownfish.

How often should you feed Clownfish?

As mentioned, not only is the right type of food important, but the feeding schedule is crucial for Clownfish to stay healthy. There is no solid rule that must be followed, but I recommend feeding your Clownfish 2 or 3 times per day.

If you have juvenile Clownfish, you should feed them 3 or 4 times per day. Provide them with enough food that they will eat in around 1 minute. That may not sound like a lot of time, but Clownfish will eat quite a bit over 1 minute. Any leftover food should be removed.

Overfeeding your fish is a very common mistake and it can result in poor water quality and sick fish.

Summary

The best foods for Clownfish should include a mix of animal and plant-based foods. Variety is important for them. Clownfish are not known to be finicky eaters and providing you give them high-quality food, they will stay healthy and colorful. Any of the foods mentioned here are great choices. There are others but these are the ones I recommend that are proven to be favorites among all Clownfish.
